The annual Wallace Day March took place on 21st August 2010. The March commemorates William Wallace who fought and died for the freedom of his beloved Scotland. The March traditionally takes place on the Saturday nearest to the date when Wallace was executed by the English.

However, this year’s event not only honored Wallace, but also David R Ross, the Convener of  the Society of William Wallace , whose untimely death in January stunned so many of his friends and colleagues.

David Ross’s daughter, Kimberley, laid the wreath at the monument, which read, “In memory of two of Scotland’s favourite sons William Wallace & David R Ross, gone but never forgotten.”

Speeches were made by among others  Kilbarchan weaver Christine Macleod and historian and TV presenter Dr Fiona Watson, whilst songs were sung by Gordon Aitken and Ted Christopher.
