The funeral of one of Paisley’s foremost musician, singer and songwriter, Gerry Rafferty, who died on 4th January, took place on Friday 21st January at St Mirin’s Cathedral.

Family, friends and fans alike gathered at the Cathedral to pay their last respects to Gerry.

Amongst them was First Minister Alex Salmond, the Proclaimer twins Craig and Charlie Reid and artist and playwright John Byrne.

Gerry was best known for his solo 1978 hit Baker Street and Stuck In The Middle  With You from his time with Stealers Wheel.

A large crowd gathered outside the Cathedral to hear a live broadcast of the service, many of whom remembered meeting the singer at various times throughout his career. As the hearse left to attend a private service at Woodside the watching crowd broke into spontaneous applause.

On 22nd November 2012, Gerry’s daughter, Martha, and nephew Mark, conducted a street naming ceremony in honour of Gerry.

New housing in the Shortroods area of Paisley now has Gerry Rafferty Drive in memory of the fantastic talent that was Gerry Rafferty.
