Yet another mobile phone mast gets the go ahead from the Scottish Executive - now there’s a surprise! Not really, given that almost 70% of the appeals to the Scottish Executive are granted. Bit of a kick in the teeth for local democracy! Surely it is for the Appeals procedure to demand proof from the mobile phone operators why they should not reject the appeal, not for them to routinely override the decision of the local community e.g. a mast to serve the Hunterhill area has been place smack in the middle of Lochfield right on top of the local football pitch. It makes no sense to me!
And then of course we have Michael Dolan, Executive Director of the Mobile Operators Association writing in the Paisley Daily Express that there is “no evidence of risk” from mobile phone masts. Now where have I heard that phrase before - would it have been about smoking, the MMR jab, or perhaps it was Asbestos, then again it might have been about nuclear radiation. It is an oft used phrase and more often than not it masks the truth that is obvious to joe public, that there is a risk.
I hear that BAA the owners of Glasgow Airport are going to charge motorists £1 to collect friends or family from the airport. This is in line with airport Managing Director Alan Barr’s commitment to increase the volume of passengers using public transport . It seems this is a political policy not a business one. Perhaps he should be in the Scottish Parliament instead of running a business.
Well, what a suprise, the Scottish Parliament Building is starting to fall apart, but then what is has to listen to on a daily basis by our esteemed MSP’s is enough for anyone or anything to fall apart!
What a shocker! Contrary to newspaper reports, the Co-op has announced that it will definitely close it’s flagship store in Paisley unless a buyer can be found for it. This hot on the heels of the closure of the Littlewoods store. And what is our esteemed Council doing about this? Absolutely nothing. They’re quite happy raking in a fortune in Business Rates from Braehead but they ain’t putting anything back in to save Paisley’s shops from shutting down.
The Prime Minister is proud of the fact that Downing Street does not have any Gas or Electricity from the UK! Is it not his duty to promote Britain? What is there to be proud about using electricity produced in the UK but paying a French company to “provide” it?
I don't get it! How come in Scotland there is far more spent on the NHS than in England and Wales yet the service we receive is so much worse, having to wait twice as long to see a consultant and get treatment as they do in England. Can't have anything to do with the organisational skills of the Scottish Parliament, can it?
So, Tony Blair is at it again, trying to scare us into accepting draconian powers of house arrest by saying there are hundreds of terrorists stalking the streets of Britain intent on causing chaos and havoc. Well, after Iraq and their weapons of mass destruction capable of hitting the UK within 45 minutes, can we really believe a word he says anymore, or that of his chief master-of-spin Alastair Campbell who somehow has managed to sneak back into Downing Street!
Council House Rents are to go up again. Absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the council want tenants to vote for the new Housing Association to take over......or is it?
Have you ever been late for work because you've been stuck behind a JCB or other slow-moving vehicle. Annoying isn't it. Well I say get these mechanical monstrosities off our roads at peak traffic times. Wouldn't banning them from the roads between, say, eight and nine in the morning lead to faster moving traffic and stop a good bit of frustration. What do you think?
When I seen the traffic backed up in Mill Street I just knew that the new traffic lights had been switched on! Well done to the town planners - how to cause backlogs and delays in one easy step! And that's not to mention the traffic lights not yet switched on at the other side of the Anchor Mill. Of course the traffic lights were totally necessary, what with all the additional traffic that will be using the area when the new supermarket opens. Why that's just what we always needed, another supermarket in the town - as if there isn't already enough of them already - and that's not counting the one that's supposed to being built on Love Street.
