Museum & Art Gallery1

Commissioned by Sir Peter Coats and designed by noted architect John Honeyman, the foundation stone was laid on 29th April 1869 with the grand opening on 11th April 1871 Various extensions and additions were added over the next 60 years, most notably the new Galleries by TG Abercrombie.

In 2012 the Pillar Gallery was given a makeover, returning it to it’s original dimension and showing off once again its vaulted ceiling.
